Here are answers to questions frequently asked about Siren Nation Music Festival:
Q. When will the next Siren Nation Music Festival happen?
A. The 2008 Siren Nation Festival is scheduled to take place November 3-9 in Portland, Oregon. The festival will feature 3 nights of women directed films, 3 nights of music and performance art and 4 gallery art shows of original art by women. In addition to this, we will be offering free workshops on a wide range of topics of concern and interest to women. There will also be an Art and Craft Sale featuring the original works of artists from around the Northwest and a meeting place where the public can connect with women entrepreneurs, non-profits and community organizations.
Q: What kind of music can one expect to hear at Siren Nation?
A: Siren Nation is NOT genre-specific festival. We will showcase as many different kinds of music as women make, including, but not limited to: jazz, blues, punk, indie, electronica, folk, hip-hop, country, old-time, gospel, rock, metal, americana, bluegrass, etc.
Q: Are men welcome at Siren Nation?
A: Yes! While we are a festival dedicated to showcasing women artists, activists and entrepreneurs we welcome the participation of men as attendees of all our events, and as supporters, donors, or organizers.
Q: Is Siren Nation trans-inclusive?
A: Yes! It is not our desire to define "woman." Self-identified women are very welcome both as performers and attendees. We hope the trans community feels both safe and included at Siren Nation.
Q: What is Siren Nation's policy regarding whether men can perform at the festival?
A: All acts performing at Siren Nation must be woman-fronted or have a woman as a key figure in the performance. If a woman performs with male musicians, dancers, etc, they are still eligible for inclusion in the festival. Most importantly we want to showcase art that is created and driven by women.
